Living in the Australian bush has given us a unique appreciation for eucalyptus’ natural use as insect repellent. While many people turn to industrial products containing high levels of toxic chemicals such as DEET, we prefer natural remedies which are not harmful to the environment (or to our skin for that matter!).

And the natural option is extremely effective! In fact, a study by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in the USA showed that a mixture of 32 percent lemon eucalyptus oil provided more than 95 percent protection against mosquitoes for three hours. It can also be very effective against garden pests – a fantastic option for indoor plant enthusiasts with small children or pets, who don’t want to use chemical pesticides.
